In your industrial processes, Globe Valve (ANSI) is one of the most reliable solutions for precise flow control and pressure control. Thanks to its linear-motion disc and seating design, it provides high tightness and fine modulation performance.

Globe Valve (ANSI)

What is a Globe Valve (ANSI)?

A globe valve is a flow control valve that regulates the flow gradually by the axial (up-and-down) movement of the disc relative to the seat. Versions manufactured in accordance with ANSI/ASME design and dimensional standards stand out with repeatable flow regulation and tight shut-off performance, especially in steam, condensate, heat transfer oil, water/wastewater and chemical service lines. With the correct trim and material selection, they offer long service life in high-temperature and corrosive environments.

Globe valve operating principle and advantages

The globe valve stem adjusts the flow area by moving the disc closer to or away from the seat; in this way, a behaviour close to a linear or equal-percentage control characteristic is obtained. This geometry ensures stability in automation control loops (PID) and increases energy efficiency in lines that require fine adjustment.

Key advantages include:

  • High tightness
  • Precise modulation capability
  • Wide range of materials and end-connection options
  • Compatibility with actuators (manual, electric, pneumatic)

In return, due to the change in flow direction, the pressure drop is higher than that of ball valves; this is optimised through proper sizing.

Globe valve types and ANSI classes

Z-Type Globe Valve

This is the most common body configuration. The flow direction in the body changes twice; this makes it ideal for high shut-off performance and accurate modulation. It is preferred for general process services and utility lines.

Y-Type Globe Valve

The body disturbs the flow less; it offers lower pressure loss and advantages under high differential pressure conditions. It is effective in erosive/abrasive services and where a long cycle life is required.

Angle Globe Valve

The inlet and outlet are at 90°, providing piping convenience in drain, blowdown and tight-space installations. In slurries or fluids with solid particles, it simplifies line design.

Globe Valve Price: Factors That Determine Cost

The price of a globe valve depends on the body material (carbon steel / stainless / alloy), pressure class (Class 150–2500), size (NPS), trim/sealing design, end connection type (flanged / BW / SW / NPT), actuator (manual / electric / pneumatic) and the required test/certification scope.

Project-specific options such as cryogenic extended bonnet, Stellite metal seats, bellows seal and anti-cavitation trim increase the unit price, but can extend maintenance intervals and reduce life-cycle cost. Standard configurations available from stock with fast delivery are more economical, while lead time and pricing for special alloys and higher classes are evaluated separately.

Why EMS Valve?

EMS Valve provides fully compliant ANSI globe valve solutions together with engineering validation, material certificates and API 598 test protocols. From single-piece orders to series production, flexible manufacturing capability is combined with an end-to-end service model including technical drawings, MTRs, pressure test reports and commissioning support.

In this way, we help you optimise your total cost both in the early design phase and during operation.
