Gate Valve (ANSI) is the preferred type of sliding shut-off valve for reliable isolation and minimum pressure loss in process pipelines. EMS Valve’s engineering approach combines durability, safety and ease of maintenance.

Gate Valve (ANSI)

What Is a Gate Valve (ANSI)?

A gate valve is a type of valve that fully opens or fully closes the flow by lifting or lowering a closure element known as the “gate.” Its optimal operating positions are fully open or fully closed. Thanks to its wedge-shaped (tapered) gate structure, it provides high sealing performance and creates almost no obstruction to the flow when fully open, resulting in very low pressure loss.

In technical literature, it is also referred to as a sluice valve.

Gate Valve (ANSI) – Key Technical Features and Standards

EMS Valve ANSI gate valves are designed in accordance with ANSI classes to provide long service life, high tightness and ease of maintenance under heavy-duty operating conditions. Design and testing can be adapted to widely used reference standards such as API 600/602, API 6D, ASME B16.34 and API 598, depending on the application. Face-to-face dimensions are selected according to ASME B16.10, flanged ends according to ASME B16.5, and welding ends according to ASME B16.25. (For typical combinations used in industry, see example technical summaries.)

Pressure Classes and Sizes

  • ANSI Class 150 / 300 / 600 / 900 / 1500 options
  • NPS ½″ to 24″ (larger sizes available upon project request)
  • Full bore or line-size flow path

End Connection Types

  • Flanged (RF/RTJ), buttweld (BW), threaded/socket weld options
  • OS&Y (Outside Screw & Yoke) stem arrangement or non-rising stem options
  • Manual handwheel, gearbox, electric / pneumatic / hydraulic actuator integration

Performance, Testing and Quality Assurance

Our Gate Valve (ANSI) solutions are verified, where applicable, in accordance with API 598 seat leakage tests and ASME B16.10 face-to-face dimensioning criteria. High-quality surface finishing, Stellite-faced seating surfaces and an optimised wedge-to-body interface are used to ensure long-term stability. In industrial practice, API 6D and ASME B16.34 are common design references.

Installation, Maintenance and Spare Parts

Proper installation is critical for valve life and sealing performance. Cleaning of flange faces, correct alignment and tightening with appropriate torque values are especially important in higher pressure classes. EMS Valve focuses on reducing total cost of ownership through spare parts management, maintenance planning and training support.
