A forged ball valve is designed to provide full flow, low operating torque and long service life at high pressures and temperatures. The forged body increases material density, enhancing tightness and mechanical strength. It is ideal for safe on/off control in energy, oil & gas, chemical and process lines.

What Is a Forged Ball Valve? Advantages

A forged ball valve is a type of ball valve (forged ball valve) that shuts off and opens the flow with a spherical plug and whose body is manufactured from forged steel. Compared to cast alternatives, forging provides a more homogeneous grain structure and internal integrity. This structure increases body resistance against pressure surges, vibration and thermal shock, and improves the stability of sealing surfaces.

At the core of its advantages are low pressure drop in full port design, fast on-off operation with low torque, a blowout-proof stem, antistatic device, fire-safe options and a wide range of seat materials. With the right configuration, maintenance intervals are extended and total cost of ownership is reduced. In high-pressure lines with limited space, the forged ball valve stands out with its compact body.

Technical Features and Standards Compliance

Selecting a forged ball valve requires a combined assessment of material, port type, end connections, sealing elements and automation compatibility. ASME/ANSI standards are used as reference for sizing; API 608 (and API 6D depending on the application) for design, and API 598 for seat and shell testing. NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 is applied for H₂S environments, PED conformity for pressure equipment regulations, and an ISO 5211 top flange is preferred for actuator mounting.

Connection, Material and Port Options

Connection Ends:
SW (Socket Weld) and BW (Butt Weld) increase tightness in lines requiring high pressure and permanent connections. NPT/BSP threaded ends provide ease of installation; selection of the sealing element is of critical importance. For heavy-duty and maintenance-priority lines, flanged solutions are used.

Material Selection:
Carbon steel A105 is standard for general service; A350 LF2 is preferred at low temperatures. For corrosive media and hygienic processes, an A182 F304/F316 stainless body is suitable. The stem, ball and seat combination must be defined according to temperature, chemical compatibility and particle load.

Port Type:
Full port configuration is ideal for lines where pigging and low pressure drop are required. Reduced port offers a more compact and economical option where flow capacity is sufficient. In most 1/2″–2″ ball valve applications, a floating ball design is preferred.
